The Designer Steampunk Airship Illustration is a recently completed commission for Visual8 Agency.
I used to be a graphic designer who loves Steampunk. This is why the chance to create a designer steampunk airship really appeals to me. Coming from a cartooning background the execution of strong lines is a natural inclination. It all fitted together very well and once we added colour the image just leap off the page!
There is always a process of arriving at this type of illustrative design. Firstly, I provide a page of thumbnail ideas to see if both the designer and I have understood each other correctly.
…then we select ideas or combine parts of images as the next step to refine and hone the concepts. Each idea has merits of its own, but ultimately only one will be used. It’s the process that produces the best outcomes.
Once the client has selected an idea I am free to turn the rough image into final vector art. Notice some details are adjusted in the final for maximum effect.
The process can take time. On this occasion the designer client and I understood each other. Because of this, the designer steampunk airship illustration was completed pretty quickly. The client was delighted!
