Sappi Corporate Map is a recent commission. It is a schematic of the Sappi Corporation’s structure and business model. It was to provide a bird’s-eye view of the entire business with its component parts. The company required a particular style of illustration. The illustration was constrained to a certain colour pallet and a particular approach, namely a simple, stylised isometric look and feel.
The entire process might have taken a lot longer to complete because of all the stakeholders. What did speed things up was having a single point of contact in Sappi who was the Corporate Identity Tzar. Had I not had direct access to the principal decision taker, I might still be sending images back and forth for approval.

This project brought back many great memories for me. I lived in the Eastern Transvaal for a time in my youth. I travelled past the Sappi Ngodwana Plant there very frequently. This was to & from my childhood home. This project reminded me of a wonderful time of my life and the beauty of the South Africa Mpumalanga region. I must return there soon! 😀
