TRANS-GENDER WARS

Since Disney has taken over the Star Wars franchise more leading roles have been taken by women. Why not go all the way?

I always thought 3-CPO would have been far more interesting as a girl Protocol Droid. The droid’s character seems to fit far more comfortably if we rather see it as a ‘she’ rather than a ‘he’.

R2D2 was a great companion to Luke Skywalker, so why shouldn’t 3-CPO be the perfect sidekick for Princess Leia? It makes perfect sense to me!

Would you agree? Either way it was fun to doodle this eye candy version of an otherwise neurotic, bossy and stuck up automaton.

When Prince Harry met his match and lost his marbles.

Prince Harry was the most interesting Royal for me, but since he met and married Meghan Markle he seems to have lost his Royale Balles.

I’ve got nothing against either Meghan or Harry. Claims of a ”racist media’ and Harry’s sudden change of tack is odd. It raises the question about who is wearing the pants in that already intersectionally-sanctioned and overtly privileged household?

That’s life in Ye Olde Royale Bedde Miss Markle, but it seems a little pea or two is threatening to dislodge the Precious Princess…

Cartoon Character Development

Unused Ping the Panda for a soon to be launched web site.

It starts with rough ideas and a workaround to get the details clear…
I added a bit of shading to show the patterning…

Sadly the job has been canned. The client not being happy with the direction the character was going. Apparently not committed to the process nor understanding how much work goes into developing a character.

Ping will not be seen online as the mascot to the website, but will be here for all to see and enjoy!! 😉

Movember 26: Charlie Chaplin

Charlie Chaplin’s Little Tramp struck a chord for countless people all over the world. The character still resonates with society today. The Little Tramp is poignant, quirky and sweet. He had a moustache too and no collection of moustaches would be complete with The Little Tramp.

The Little Tramp. An invention by Charlie Chaplin.

Charlie Chaplin wrote a song that seems to complement the Little Tramp character. It is beautifully sad and yet; hopeful. Just like The Little Tramp.

“Smile
Tho’ your heart is aching

Smile
Even tho’ it’s breaking

When there are clouds in the sky

You’ll get by
If you
Smile through your fear and sorrow

Smile and maybe tomorrow

You’ll see the sun come shining thru for you.

Light up your face with gladness

Hide ev’ry trace of sadness

Altho’ a tear maybe ever so near

That’s the time you must keep on trying

Smile
What’s the use of crying

You’ll find that life is still worth while”

Movember 09: Rasputin

The evil Rasputin was the downfall of the Romanovs but I experienced a wild-eyed zealot who changed my future for the better.

Tallie van Rasputin

In my youth I knew a man called Tallie van Aswegen who most reminds me of the Russian Mystic Rasputin who was operating about the time of the fall of the Royal House of Romanov. They look similar and both had deep convictions.

He was charming with an infectious smile, bright eyes with an unruly beard and moustache. He wore shabby tracksuits & beanie and was constantly monologuing, including some very memorable sayings (You better flippin’ believe it!) and drove around in his ‘Tribulation Wagen’ – a clapped-out old VW Beetle which endeared him to me. This modern-day Rasputin differed in his hospitality. His home was an endless stream of young people, dialogue and cups of rooibos tea. He loved music too and always had great new music to share and exciting things to discuss.

I am certain he hasn’t changed. If not (and we are to assume an afterlife) he is definitely resting in Abraham’s bosom. Unlike Grigori Rasputin who is most likely in the other place. 😉
